Yoga and Injury prevention faculty
We are delighted to provide a unique approach to musical performance training in which the physical component is addressed in a holistic way.
Heather Salyers has developed a course about injury prevention for musicians that was accepted by the music department of WCU in 2008. Since then she has held an adjunct faculty position with West Chester University’s music department. She has presented lectures on the subject at The Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and has guided PT Doctoral students at Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania Orthodontics Program.
Ceara Caisido, RYT200, has been teaching yoga for 4.5 years and sought out to be a yoga teacher after thoroughly enjoying her time practicing vinyasa through a circus camp in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She found that she had suffered injuries from improper practice techniques which motivated her to bring this practice to the musical community and has since found a passion in helping others learn about their bodily awareness while also gaining them new found strength in the process. She is also a masters student at West Chester University in Cello Performance and runs her own private cello studio teaching her students the importance of alignment, breathwork, and relaxation for a much more enjoyable practice session.
