   Dan Cavassi studied the cello at George Enescu Music High School in Bucharest with professors Paul Ochialbi and George Cocea, then at the Bucharest Academy of Music, Prof. George Iarosevici. After completing his studies, he graduated in Paris with Antonio Janigro, then in Geneva with Pierre Fournier. Since 1984 he has been a violoncellist at the “George Enescu” Philharmonic, where he is still active. As a permanent member of the prestigious Quartet “Music”, he has concertized all over the world, participating in famous festivals such as Salzburg, Bregenz, Roma, Paris, La Rochelle, Belgrade, Edinburgh, Brussels, etc. In 1980, Dan Cavassi founded the “Pro Music” Quartet, immediately recognized by winning many national and international awards.

He appears frequently in recital, in various chamber ensembles, as a soloist of Bucharest orchestras (George Enescu Philharmonic, Radio Chamber Orchestra) and symphonic orchestras from other cities in the country (Ploieşti, Bacau, Sibiu, Craiova). His artistic career is complemented by television, radio and disc recordings (LP, CD).

Along with classical music, Dan Cavassi is currently approaching modern and contemporary music: he collaborated as a soloist with Opera and “Neues Theater für Musik” – Bonn, “Festival Ensemble” – Heidelberg, “Profectio Initiative” – ​​Freiburg, “Phoenix” -Basel, “Ensemble für Neue Musik Zürich”, etc., also recording radio and CD recordings.

Mr. Cavassi is decorated by the Romanian Presidency with the Cultural Class I for his artistic activity. Together with the composer Carmen Cârneci, he is a founding member of the ensemble “Devotio Moderna”, released in 2005. Together with clarinettist Cristian Mancaş and pianist Viniciu Moroianu, he founded the “Pro musica” trio in 2010 and the collaboration with the pianist Sorin Dogariu dates from the previous year.
